Jan Kolen, professor of Landscape Archaeology and Cultural Heritage at the Faculty of Archaeology, and since 2013 the director of the LDE Centre for Global Heritage and Development, has been appointed the new scientific member and expert on archaeological heritage management and cultural landscapes of the board of ICOMOS Netherlands on July 3rd 2015. Prof Kolen will replace Prof Willem Willems, who sadly passed away on 13 December 2014. On behalf of ICOMOS Netherlands Prof Kolen will also be the Dutch representative of ICAHM, of which Prof Ian Lilley, who is currently the visiting professor on the Willem Willems Chair at the Faculty of Archaeology, is the Secretary-General.
ICOMOS Netherlands is one of the national committees of the International Council of Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS). ICOMOS is an international non-governmental organization of heritage professionals engaged in the conservation of places of cultural value and dedicated to the conservation of the world's historic monuments and sites. ICOMOS was founded in 1965 following the adoption of the International Charter for the Conservation and Restoration of Monuments and Sites – generally referred to as The Venice Charter (1964).
