The Centre for Global Heritage and Development received a fund from the Shared Heritage Matching fund at DutchCulture to publish a book on Holambra, one of the most influential Dutch Colonies in Brazil.
The project aims the publication and presentation of a book in the Netherlands and in Brazil about the history of the Dutch migrant community in Holambra. Historian Mari Smits, who once lived in Holambra, has made use of new sources that came available through the Shared Heritage program.
Despite the relatively large influence the migrants had on Brazilian society (in terms of agricultural technology for example) and despite recent efforts to shed light on the history of the Dutch migrants (Braziliaanse Koorts, Novo Começo) their history is still very unknown. Through the TULIPANA program the Centre for Global Heritage tries to raise awareness on this shared history and safeguard the cultural heritage of the migrants.
The book can strengthen the mixed Dutch-Brazilian identity of Holambra and can contribute to the awareness of the common past of the Netherlands and Brazil.
