Worldwide fragile manuscripts are digitized for preservation and online access. But can we actually read the original text? Ink corrosion and paper discoloration cause illegibility.
The th[INK]back project aims to develop tools to improve readability of scanned manuscripts. By applying intelligent image processing algorithms, we want to turn back the clock and digitally undo the impact of time.
We invite researchers to help us solve this problem. Anyone with ideas, tools, algorithms, visualization skills, image processing experience can participate in this non-profit project.
Th[INK]back is initiated by Marco Roling (Centre for Global Heritage and Development) in collaboration with the Cultural Heritage Agency of the Netherlands. Read more about the project on the th[INK]back website.
