TULIPANA program ended

In 2014 the TULIPANA program was initiated with the aim of contributing to a sustainable future for the heritage of the Dutch colonies in Brazil and to create awareness on the history of the Dutch in Brazil. All this in a partnership between volunteers in the colonies, the Centre for Global Heritage and Development and the Dutch Association in Rio de Janeiro.

The TULIPANA team organized trainings in archival description and photo preservation, we published a book on the history of Holambra, we organized a scientific workshop on connecting digital resources related to migration and we mediated in publishing the photo collection of the colony Holambra online. We also advised the documentary "Brazilian Fever" and we launched the Facebook page "Landverhuizers' (which now has 159 followers from Brazil and the Netherlands). The whole team gave lectures on the subject and the project in the Netherlands and Brazil and even in Australia.

In the second half of 2016 Renate Stapelbroek finished the archive directory 'Zeskamp' with an inventory of the sources in Brazil with regard to Dutch group migration. In January she will present the guide at the recently opened (new) museum in Castrolanda. There will be representatives of the different colonies present. Also recently published was the Portuguese translation of the Holambra book "Holambra, os Primeiros anos difíceis the um Pedacinho da Holanda no Brasil".  On November 22 the Netherlands Cultural Heritage Agency (RCE) and Museum Holambra have signed an agreement on the online presentation and management of the Holambra photo collection.

As a committed and enthusiastic TULIPANA team we have managed to launch a number of innovations and created connections. This was our primary goal and a realistic achievement within our framework (working in an international scope with mostly volunteers and a limited budget). We have therefore decided to conclude the TULIPANA program in December 2016. The website tulipana.org will remain online for at least two years and also the Facebook page 'Landverhuizers' we will continue to maintain. Of course The Centre for Global Heritage and Development remains available for questions in the field of (migration) heritage and continues with other projects and initiatives in this field.

Thank you for your interest in our work!

Sincerely,

The Tulipana team: Annemarie van der Knaap, Marco Roling, Mari Smits, Renate Stapelbroek and Mara de Groot
